Overview: A major part of literacy instruction is collecting data through formatively assessing student writing and reading to help them progress. This workshop will focus on using the Confer app as the primary tool for teachers who are collecting student data within the Readers and Writers Workshop model. Confer allows teachers to keep a running record of student strengths, teaching points, and next steps facilitating differentiation and the formation of strategy groupings. This hands-on workshop will show teachers how to setup Confer on their iPads, import ready-to-use menu items, and develop tailor made menu items that support your existing reading and writing curriculum. Workshop participants will walk away with their confer app ready to use when they return to school. This is a must have app for any educator working with Readers and Writers Workshop but can also be used as a formative assessment tool in any curricular area. Say goodbye to the clipboard and the pencil for recording your conferencing notes, say hello to 21st century literacy assessment.
